Timeline

This is a general overview of the entire practicum process in chronological order. Use this as a roadmap to track your progress through the practicum.

  1. Practicum Application: Submit your Practicum Application through World TESOL Academy's online form.

  2. Tutor Application: Complete the Tutor Application form from Paper Airplanes.

  3. Conditional Acceptance: Receive a notification from Paper Airplanes regarding your conditional acceptance into the program.

  4. Tutor Training: Complete the required online training modules provided by Paper Airplanes to prepare for your teaching assignment.

  5. Final Approval: Receive confirmation from Paper Airplanes that you've successfully completed training and are approved to begin teaching.

  6. Student Matching: Receive a Welcome Email with contact information on your assigned student or class based on your availability and preferences.

  7. Submit Enrollment Confirmation: Complete this form to secure your spot in the practicum.

  8. Initial Contact: Reach out to your student(s) with an introduction and coordinate class schedules and meeting details.

  9. Teaching Period: Begin your teaching practicum, conducting regular lessons according to the curriculum provided.

  10. Final Assignment Submission: Complete and submit your final assignment (see Final Assignment for details).

  11. Certification: Receive your practicum certificate via email after World TESOL Academy approves your final assignment submission.

This helps us assess your teaching practice and serves as evidence of your completed hours. 📝Reflection Essay guidelines

  • Format: Times New Roman, 12 pt. font

  • Spacing: Double-spaced

  • Length: 750 words minimum


Reflect on your practicum experience and write an essay about what you have learned, and how you have grown as a teacher. You can choose one (or several) of the suggested prompts below:

  • Personal Growth: Reflect on how this practicum has changed your teaching philosophy or approach. What were your most significant insights or moments of growth?

  • Theory to Practice: Discuss how the teaching theories and methodologies you learned in your TESOL/TEFL course translated to real classroom experience. Which theoretical concepts proved most valuable?

  • Overcoming Challenges: Describe significant challenges you encountered during your practicum and how you addressed them. What strategies were most effective and why?

  • Lesson Planning and Spontaneity: Discuss how you balanced the structure of planned lessons with the need to be flexible and spontaneous in response to student needs during your practicum.

  • Online Teaching Dynamics: Examine the unique aspects of teaching in a virtual environment. What techniques were particularly effective? How did you create engagement, build rapport remotely, and empower your students to take ownership of their learning? What strategies did you use to support their autonomy?

  • Reflective Practice: How did regular self-reflection during the practicum contribute to your professional development as an ESL teacher? Provide examples of changes you implemented based on your reflections.

  • Effective Use of Technology: Evaluate the strengths and limitations of online platforms like Zoom or Google Meet in facilitating ESL learning. What technological challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?

  • Length: 3–8 minutes

  • File Type: MP4 (.mp4) or MOV (.mov)

  • File Size: Under 500 MB


Reflect on your practicum experience and use the guiding questions below to create a video around. You can answer the prompts in any order, and you don’t need to cover everything. Pick several ideas you're interested in discussing.

  • What was your practicum like (who you taught, how often, and what your lessons generally focused on)?

  • What surprised you most about the experience (in a good way)?

  • What kind of teacher would you recommend this practicum to, and why?

  • How did you feel about teaching at the start, and how do you feel now?

  • What’s one specific thing you can do now that you couldn’t confidently do before?

  • Tell one short story from a lesson that made you feel proud (a breakthrough, a funny moment, a student win, a moment you handled well). What did it show you about your teaching style or strengths?

  • What kinds of progress did you notice in your student over time (confidence, participation, vocabulary, fluency, routines)?

  • What did your student do or say that made you feel the program mattered?

  • What routines or habits made your teaching easier?

  • What did you do outside of lessons that made a difference (planning time, notes, reviewing last lesson, setting goals)?

  • What kind of support did you receive (facilitator, program structure, resources), and what was most helpful?

  • What did you wish you had known at the beginning that would’ve made things smoother?

  • What did you learn about communication, patience, leadership, or cross-cultural connection through this experience?

  • Did it change your career direction or motivation in any way?

  • What are your top two or three tips for someone starting this practicum?

  • Why should someone consider applying to this practicum?

  • What’s the biggest benefit you’re taking with you?

Authenticity Guidelines

At World TESOL Academy, we value the genuine growth and development of our teachers. The final assignment is an important reflection of your personal teaching journey and the skills you've developed. To maintain the integrity of this program, we require all submissions to be authentic and original.All submissions must abide by our Authenticity Statement:

"I certify that the materials submitted are my own original work, created and compiled solely by me. The final assignment represents my individual effort, and I have not knowingly plagiarized any content. No part of this submission has been generated or significantly assisted by artificial intelligence tools. I understand that violating these standards will make me ineligible for the practicum certificate and disqualify me from participating in any future practicums through World TESOL Academy."


✔ What Is Allowed

  • The Reflection Essay must be composed in your own words. You may discuss strategies with peers or mentors, but the final product must capture your own perspective and effort.

  • When referencing published works, paraphrase in your own voice and include a brief citation.

  • Spelling and grammar checking tools for your written work are permitted.

✘ What Is Not Allowed

  • Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim from any source (websites, textbooks, articles) without quotation marks and citation.

  • AI-generated content: Using AI to draft or significantly edit your reflection essay, or to copy someone else's work.

  • Third-party media: Incorporating stock photos/videos or any content you did not personally capture, unless you hold full rights and clearly credit the source.

  • Copyrighted material: Embedding copyrighted music, images, or clips without permission.


Violation of these guidelines constitutes a breach of our program’s integrity standards. If an assignment is found to be inauthentic or AI-assisted:

  • You will not receive the Practicum Certificate.

  • You will be ineligible for any future practicums through World TESOL Academy.

This practicum offers a unique opportunity for teachers to develop authentic teaching skills. The value of this experience lies in your personal growth and reflection. AI tools and plagiarized content undermine this growth and prevent us from accurately assessing your teaching development.
